A Standout In A World Of White
It’s a proud moment in a contractor’s life when company
lettering finally goes up on a new — and naked — service truck. And sometimes
having that dream realized is more than enough. But if you’re Matt Volk, owner of
Matco Plumbing Inc. in Maryland Heights,
Mo., plain white just won’t do.
“We wanted a truck that people would
remember and associate with the services we provide,” says Volk, whose
preceding trucks were basic white with blue lettering. “Now people almost get
in accidents when they drive by staring at the trucks. Many like it. Others say
it’s over the top; however, they remember it.”
Volk and his team have kept pretty busy
since opening shop five years ago. Matco’s recent switch to 95 percent service
has met with tremendous success, but the 24/7 company still finds the time to inspect
its three trucks once a week, restock them every morning, and wash them inside
and out twice a week when possible.
In his “downtime”, Volk is involved in
many different committees, trade organizations (such as PHCC’s Quality Service
Contractors), and holds a seat on the St. Louis County Board of Plumbing
Examiners.
As for the graphics, the 2008 Matco
Spartan shown here is anything but generic. The wrap by Vinyl Images (Fenton, Mo.)
starts low with ice, blending into water that turns into steam, and onto fire —
the gamut of the company’s services.
“The only graphic it lacks is sewage
disposal,” he says, but admits he had to draw the line there. “I don’t think
that would be appropriate to incorporate into the trucks’ graphics.”
Volk believes his design choice communicates strength and
what plumbing, heating and cooling contractors and technicians have to be experts
in. “And I believe the graphics help Matco Plumbing stand out in a world of
white trucks!”
